The Jeep Gladiator May Be the Name Of Your New Wrangler Pickup

It’s almost official. Most automotive insiders in the know now concur that Jeep’s new Wrangler-based pick-up truck will be called the Jeep Gladiator. For several months it was believed the Scrambler was the name Jeep would call the new pick-up. Recently, however, an automotive grapevine ‘long-time trusted source’ revealed a screenshot they saw of the company’s website had the new pick-up being called the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Apparently, Fiat-Chrysler’s media site had the name up long enough for the insider to view it on both their computer browser and their iPhone. The listing was reportedly taken down soon afterwards.

A Logical Choice

Jeep had used the Gladiator name on one of its vehicles during the 1960s. So, the revelation the company was calling the new Wrangler-based pick-up the ‘Gladiator’ was embraced as a great choice by long-time Jeep enthusiasts. They also point to the dramatic 2005 Wrangler concept pick-up that was called the Jeep Gladiator. Another reason many knowledgeable people believe Gladiator and not Scramble will be the name Jeep chooses for its new pick-up, is the Ducati brand, which is owned by Audi, has a sub-brand of off-road, retro-styled bikes that has been using the Scrambler name for years.

What To Expect

Insiders say the new Jeep Wrangler-based pick-up truck will be available in three trim level in the United States. They are the Sport, Overland and the Rubicon. Currently, the Overland trim isn’t offered on vehicles in the Wrangler range. Many expected it would be reserved for use on an off-road camping version. In terms of what features to expect on Jeep’s highly-anticipated and hotly debated new pick-up, insiders say an FCA dealer presentation teaser revealed a photograph of the pickup covered in camouflage said it has “next-generation advanced safety systems”, “15 class-exclusive innovations”, along with the latest infotainment systems featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Searching For Clues

Jeep enthusiasts have been searching for clues about the look, features and name of the long-awaited pick-up truck. People regularly visit forum pages, scourer FCA media sites, do searches, follow links, take long hard looks at spy photos and tap all their connections for inside information. They picked up internal chatter about the switch from ‘Scrambler’ to ‘Gladiator’, saw pickup truck codes like Rubicon Pickup JTJS98, Sport Pickup JTJL98 and Overland Pickup JTJP98, go over old press releases and try to make informed deductions about what the Jeep pick-up will look like and be able to do.

The Big Reveal

Most insiders agree all the signs point to the new Jeep pick-up being called the 2020 Jeep Gladiator. Still, the excitement is building and countless people around the world are waiting with baited breath to see touch, test drive and buy this innovative new automotive offering from Jeep. The wait will be over soon. All the speculation ends at the LA Auto Show on November 26, 2018. Press releases for the event promise a new Jeep pick-up truck will be revealed. Jeep lovers can hardly wait.
