Everything You Need To Know About The Jeep Wrangler

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler, the latest version of a very popular off-road vehicle, will begin showing up in showrooms nationwide early next year. Here are a few things people should know about it.

The current generation of the Jeep Wrangler has been sold for over 10 years. The next generation Wrangler is among the most anticipated of the 2018 trucks. Being produced at the Jeep assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio, new Wrangler will debut in late November in the LA Auto Show.

The Jeep Wrangler is an iconic vehicle, so the 2018 model will look much like the models from previous generations. However, it will feature a slightly more bulbous front grille to help the vehicle meet the pedestrian crash safety standards. Plus, the turn signal will now be on the front part of the fender.

Spy photos show the 2018 Jeep Wrangler will have both two door and four door models and buyers can choose between a hard or soft top configuration. Leaked computer renderings confirm the 2018 Wrangler will still offer the trademark removable doors. Pictures of camouflaged prototypes showing exposed door hinges, one of the Wrangler’s traditional design elements, seems to signal the doors on the new model will be able to be popped off.

The windshield on the 2018 Wrangler has hinges. That may be just decoration or it could mean the windshield will fold down like in previous models. The windshield itself is significantly flatter than before signaling it may fold down.

Spy photos show the new Wrangler has a much nicer interior. It might even feature the latest UConnect infotainment system from Fiat Chrysler. It may also have heated steering wheels and dual-zone climate control as available options. The 2018 Jeep Wrangler isn’t ready for test drive yet, but you can check out others Jeep Wrangler models out at Chapman Chrysler Jeep.

Dashboard-mounted window switches on the new Wrangler imply it will have removable doors. Like older Wranglers, it has a shallow, upright dashboard. Portions of it may be color-matched with the exterior paint. It’s uncertain if that’s a standard feature or a high-end option.

There’ll also be a pickup version of the new Wrangler. Allegedly called the Scrambler, it won’t be available until late 2019.

The new Wrangler will retain the classic body-on-frame construction. However, it will be much lighter and get better gas mileage than previous generations because much more aluminum is expected to be used in its body.

Insiders say the 2018 Wrangler will have multiple engine options. They include Fiat Chrysler’s Pentastar V6 and the Hurricane, a four-cylinder, 2.0 liter, 300 horsepower engine with a twin-scroll turbocharger. Built on an aluminum block, the Hurricane will also feature variable valve timing and direct fuel injection. The new Wrangler could also have hybrid and diesel powertrains. Diesel-powered Wranglers are sold outside the US. The diesel option looks like a turbocharged V6, 3.0-liter engine.

Sources and spy photos hint that the next generation Wrangler will offer an optional manual version and one with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This will improve efficiency over the five-speed automatic currently available.

Here comes the long-awaited new and improved 2018 Jeep Wrangler.
