Chrysler Jeep Sales Continue to Soar This Summer

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles sales increased 8% year over year in June 2015 to 185,035 units. It was the company’s best sales in June since 2006. The Jeep line recorded its best sales ever in the month of June which saw Wrangler sales increasing by 17%, Patriot sales by 41% and Cherokee sales up by 39%, all of them setting monthly sales records.

The overall company sales fell short of the analyst’s forecast. Kelley Blue Book (KBB) predicted sales of 189,000 while Edmunds forecasted 187,000 sales for June.

In other good news for Chrysler, the average transaction rate was up by 3.8% year over year in the month of May to $34,352 which was a 0.6% increase month over month and a year over year increase of 3.9%.

In June, Chrysler’s Jeep line sold 71,529 vehicles. The Jeep line now has 21 straight months of record sales. April was the first full month of availability of the all-new Jeep Renegade, which sold 4,858 units in June which is a 10% month over month increase.

Chrysler announced last week it will delay the redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee until 2018 or 2019. Originally it was to be released in 2017, but Chrysler will still refresh the 2016 designs as originally planned. The president of Jeep brand said that the acceptance of the brand is still very strong and that is supported by the current record sales. He expects the excitement for the Grand Cherokee brand to continue into next year and until the new redesign dates.

In June Ram sold 33,332 units which is an increase of 1%, this even though posting a year over year increase of 2% in May. Ram pickup sales for the first 6 months of 2015 were up 4% to a total of 212,716 units. This represented the best sales in the month of June in 11 years, even though monthly sales increases have been getting smaller. Ram’s overall brand sales were up 8% to 230,964 units.

The Chrysler brand is up 28% in year over year sales with the new Chrysler 200 increasing to 153% in year over year sales to 18,560 units. The year over year gain in May for the Chrysler 200 was a whopping 573%.

Sales of the Dodge brand were down 14% year over year in June. The brand’s bright spot is the Challenger which is up 56% to 6,845 units. The Caravan sales have dropped 49% so far for the year.

Chrysler is projecting that by 2015, 17.5 million units will be sold from U.S dealerships everywhere, including Chapman Chrysler Jeep.

Shares in Chrysler stock have a 52-week trading range between $8.54 to $17.08.
