The brand new 2018 ‘JL’ generation Jeep Wrangler is here. The company has revamped the most iconic and recognizable 4×4 it has ever produced. The current ‘JK’ generation four-door Jeep Wrangler had remained largely unchanged for 11 years. Jeep debuted the new model at the LA Auto Show this year.

To please Wrangler fans, the 2018 Jeep version retains the rugged, somewhat boxy look of the previous generation Wrangler. However, the new two-door Wrangler is 2.8 inches longer while the four-door model is longer than its predecessor by 3.8 inches. The new Wrangler also has an aluminum body that’s 200 pounds lighter.

The new Wrangler has larger headlights, with LED beams as an option. The fender flares are smaller and have LED daytime running light integrated into them. There’s also a new CJ-inspired grille, as well as new bumpers on the front and rear. The Rubicon models now have 33-inch tires, fenders painted in the body-color, plus a hood with a vented power dome. The 2018 Wrangler has a manual soft-top roof with a new spring mechanism, allowing one person to raise or fold it. The Wrangler also has a power-folding soft-top option. A Freedom Top hardtop with lighter removable panels is also available. No matter what version you want, you can check out any Jeep Wrangler at Chapman Chrysler Jeep.

The changes to the new Jeep Wrangler are more noticeable in the interior. The new upscale cabin has push-button ignition, a 7-inch driver display located between analog gauges, 7-inch UConnect infotainment system with the option to upgrade to an 8.4-inch display featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and other technological advances. Plus, the four-door models have more rear legroom, more comfortable seating positions and larger windows for improved visibility.

Three new engine options and two updated transmissions power the 2018 Jeep Wrangler. Chrysler’s Pentastar V6, 285 horsepower engine which delivers 260 pound-feet of torque is the base motor. It can be mated with either a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic. Drivers can choose between a 2.0-liter turbocharged, e-assisted, 270 horsepower four-cylinder engine which provide 295 pound-feet of torque and a 260 horsepower, 3.0-liter turbodiesel which kicks 442 pound-feet of torque. Those engines are exclusively mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. A plug-in hybrid Wrangler will be available in 2020.

The new Wrangler Sport, Sport S as well as the Sahara models have the four-wheel drive Command-Trac NV241 transfer case which has a 2.72:1 low range and a Dana 30 front axle and a Dana 35 rear axle as standard equipment. A Trac-Lok limited-slip rear differential is also available. The Wrangler Sahara models can now have the Selec-Trac transfer case which has permanent 4WD. Rubicons get serious off-road hardware. It includes front and rear Dana 44 axles with 4.10 gearing, along with a Rock-Trac transfer case which has 4:1 low-range gearing, as well as Tru-Lok electronic locking differentials. The vehicle also has front sway bars with an electronic disconnect.

The 2018 Jeep Wrangler appears to have improved on the JK significantly, but still offers the great look and superior capability Jeep lovers expect.

Jeep has announced plans to offer an optional soft-top on their Scrambler pickup. The company has signaled plans to fully reveal its two-door Wrangler along with the four-door Wrangler Unlimited at next week’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Jeep’s new pickup truck will not be there. The plan is to have it make its debut some time during 2018. The Scrambler pickup is slated to begin production at Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio in November 2018. The Scrambler pickup truck is based on the Jeep Wrangler. It is scheduled to begin hitting the market in about a year.

At the Moab Easter Jeep Safari last year, Jeep introduced its Crew Chief 715 concept. That vehicle is based on Jeep’s previous-generation Wrangler Unlimited. The Crew Chief 715 concept looks like a pickup truck that has a fabric roof as well as an array of design cues that pay tribute to a wide selection of Jeep military vehicles that include the Kaiser M715. People that are Crew Chief 715 fans will be ecstatic to hear that the Wrangler pickup that they have long been waiting for, codenamed ‘JT’, will draw some inspiration from the concept vehicle that debuted last year.

Sources with close connections to Jeep have revealed to Automotive News that the utilitarian vehicle will have an optional soft top, just like the regular Wrangler. In addition to that, owners will have the option to simply lower the soft top or to remove it completely. A number of the styling traits that were included in the Crew Chief 715 is said to be planned to be included on the Scrambler. However the front grille will not be a part of it. That will enable it to stay true to the heritage of the Wrangler. The name Scrambler has not yet been confirmed as what the new pickup will be called. If you want to check out any Jeep’s, you should head to Chapman Chrysler Jeep.

There are numerous spy images that have shown that the testing phase of the new pickup truck is already well underway. The new Jeep pickup has rumored to have been in the development stage for quite a few years. Many people have seen the regular Wranglers driving out in the open. Those in the know say they do not expect too many surprises when it comes to the design of Jeep’s new pickup version of the Wrangler. When the new Scrambler eventually arrives, many say it could feature a V6 3.0-liter turbodiesel engine similar to the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder as well as the company’s naturally aspirated V6 Pentastar gasoline engines.

For people that are both Jeep and pickup lovers, excitement is at an all-time high. All signs point to the new Scrambler being a great addition to the Jeep lineup of rugged, versatile vehicles. Automotive enthusiasts are counting down the days and poring over spy photographs to get a look at this long-awaited Jeep pickup. The company has a 75 year tradition of creating excellent go anywhere, do anything vehicles and the Scrambler is anticipated continue that tradition.
