Jeep lovers the wait is almost over. The next-generation Jeep Wrangler will be hitting the showroom floor at the end of the year. Plus the company promises to release a diesel version in the 2019 model year. All of this new information about the next-generation Wrangler comes to you courtesy of the good folks that bring you JL Wrangler Forums. While they won’t divulge their anonymous source, they did say that the details come straight from a dealer meeting. That inside source also provided information on the company’s timeline for releasing the new Jeep. The redesigned Jeep Wrangler will make its debut at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. It will then hit the showroom floor in dealership nationwide in December.

When it is launched, people will be able to buy the next-gen Wrangler
that comes with both a V6 3.6-liter engine mated with either an automatic or a manual transmission and a four-cylinder 2.0-liter engine that only comes paired with an automatic transmission. The expectation is that the engine on the next-generation Jeep Wrangler will be turbocharged and deliver up to as many as 300 horsepower. It looks like Chrysler is going to make good on the promise it made to release a diesel Wrangler when it produces this new generation of the automobile.

There are photos that were taken by someone that uses the JL Wrangler Forums that shows what appears to be a diesel exhaust fluid tank on the bottom of one of the prototypes. Jeep Wrangler lovers may have to wait a little bit longer on the diesel powertrain. The source from the JL Wrangler Forums indicates the diesel powertrain will not arrive until close to the 2019 model year’s end. That means it could potentially be the end of the calendar year in 2018 or early in 2019 when the diesel model hits the showroom floor. But, if you want to check out any Jeep models now, you can do so at Chapman Chrysler Jeep. In fact, that are a lot of Jeep Wrangler models you can check out now.

In other big news, the anonymous source has confirmed that the next-gen Jeep Wrangler will have a hardtop that comes equipped with an easy to use power sliding opening. That is a feature that was rumored to be in the works years ago. Now, thanks to the spy photos taken earlier by a member of the JL Wrangler Forums, people may be able to get a look at it. The photos the JL Wrangler Forums member took showed that there was a mysterious group of switches located on the header of the windshield. Those switches could well be used to control the power top.

According to the aforementioned anonymous source, this feature will not be available when the vehicle is initially launched. Instead it will make its debut close to the 2018 model year’s end. This means it could be either in the early part of the 2018 calendar year or the middle of the 2018 calendar year before it becomes available. The forum website has also revealed some of the other minor changes that have been made to the colors as well as the equipment on the vehicle.
