 2015 Jeep Renegade Coming Soon

Jeep has been on a product roll. The venerable Jeep Wrangler is still selling well, even after all these years. The Grand Cherokee has become a staple amongst the SUV market and community. Even the recently unveiled and wildly designed Cherokee has gotten traction in the market amongst new buyers looking for something rugged and practical without have to spend Land Rover money. Now, Jeep is attacking the smaller, more crossover SUV products by slowly eliminating the Compass and Patriot for something a little more true to the Jeep ethos. Here we welcome in the 2015 Jeep Renegade. Jeep saw the Nissan Jukes and Kia Souls of the world carving a market of small crossover SUVs without offering anything rugged like Jeep is handsomely known for. Styling for the 2015 Renegade comes from the Wrangler, as Jeep diversifies its styling into two design camps—the Grand Cherokee/Cherokee and Renegade/Wrangler.

For Jeep purists, an off-road-oriented Trailhawk model offers 8.8 inches of ground clearance. it also offers 8.1 inches of rear wheel travel and is able to wade up to 19 inches of water, It is almost certain that many won’t option for the rugged Trailhawk version, instead opting for a trim that is more practical with a charming design.

U.S. buyers will have two powertrain offerings at launch. There is the 1.4 turbo 4 160 hp 184 torque paired exclusively with a six-speed manual. There is also the 2.4-liter Tigershark making 184 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque, which is mated to a Chrysler nine-speed automatic transmission. Jeep says the crossover will deliver 30 plus mpg on the highway.

Two all-wheel drive systems are available. Jeep Active Drive is a full-time system that can send up to 100 percent of engine torque to any drive wheel as necessary. Jeep Active Drive Low is standard on the Trailhawk model. This adds a low range that gives the Renegade a 20:1 crawl ratio in first gear.

Jeep Active Drive Low will also employ hill-descent control and Selec-Terrain traction control. The traction control will have Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud, and, on the Trailhawk model, Rock 4×4 driving modes.
