2015 Chrysler 200 Named Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS

2015 Chrysler 200When considering the purchase of a new vehicle, consumers naturally wish to ensure they choose the safest vehicle possible. The redesigned 2015 Chrysler 200 is an excellent choice, as it was recently awarded the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award.

The midsize vehicle earned top ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the small overlap front crash test. It should be noted that the previous generation of this model earned an acceptable, meaning Chrysler has made significant strides to improve safety in the latest Chrysler 200.  The car is also better in other ways, and to see how comfortable and roomy the Chrysler 200 is, you should come down to Chapman Chrysler Jeep and test drive one.

The 2015 Chrysler 200 qualified for the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award with good ratings in all five of the relevant crashworthiness evaluations along with the front-crash prevention system, in which the vehicle received a superior rating.

The IIHS noted that the driver’s space was maintained quite well in the small overlap test. Furthermore, injury measures, which were recorded using a dummy, demonstrated a low risk that any significant injuries would be sustained in a similar real-world crash. The frontal airbag in this model controlled the dummy’s head quite well. Additionally, the Chrysler 200 demonstrated a deployment of the side curtain airbag, while also providing ample forward coverage in order to protect the head of the occupant from sustaining any contact with side structures. Overall, the 2015 Chrysler 200 earned a good rating in all measurement categories for the small overlap protection, including dummy kinematics, restraints, structure, and injury measures related to the legs, feet, pelvis, chest, neck, and head.

A superior rating was granted to the Chrysler 200 when equipped with the optional forward warning system, which features an autobrake. This feature is included in the SafetyTec package. During evaluations, the system stopped the vehicle completely in a 12 mph test while reducing speed significantly in the 25 mph test.

The IIHS conducts such evaluations to determine the crashworthiness of a vehicle and its ability to protect the occupants of that vehicle in the event of a crash. In addition, the IIHS provides ratings for vehicles based on front crash prevention, referring to systems designed to alert the driver of an impending collision or apply the vehicle’s brakes automatically in order to mitigate or avoid a frontal collision. Vehicles found to perform the best in such evaluations qualify for the IIHS Top Safety Pick, a category that has been awarded since 2006. The Top Safety Pick+ was first introduced in 2013.

In order for a vehicle to quality for the 2015 Top Safety Pick+, as has the Chrysler 200, the vehicle must meet the criteria for the Top Safety Pick as well as receive a superior or advanced rating for front crash prevention. It should be noted that the weight and size of a vehicle play an influence in terms of occupant protection, meaning the 2015 Chrysler 200 is considered one of the best vehicle choices in terms of safety for its size category. When you start looking for the 2016 Chrysler 200, you know that you are going to look at a car that is safe, and all around, fun to own.
