Now that you’ve got the keys to a new or new-to-you Jeep from Chapman Chrysler Jeep, you’re probably itching to put it to the test. Most cities offer some great Jeep off-roading trails all within a short drive of the metro. We’ve done the dirty work and created a checklist for what you need to know before you get those tires (and mirrors and windshields and just about everything else) muddy. Let’s go!

First, let’s get packing. Here’s what you’ll need for a good adventure: a full tank of gas, a tow rope rated to the weight of your Jeep, a spare tire and all the tools needed to actually change that tire, a portable air compressor, maps, a first aid kit and a fully-charged cell phone. You’ll also want to take along a high jack lift, a vehicle-mounted winch, shovel, water for the radiator and drinking water for you and your passengers, two-way radios to communicate with your driving pals and at least one fire extinguisher.

Then, you’ll want to choose your route. While driving through sloppy river bottoms and rock climbing is what we all first imagine when we think of off-roading, you’ll want to gain experience behind the wheel in kinder terrains before hitting a difficult trail. Look for trails with a rating of 1-2, which feature obstacles and terrain that is relatively easy to navigate and might not require continuous use of four-wheel drive. These trails often consist of grass, dry dirt or gravel roads, or crossing dry stream beds. They can offer a fun ride while posing little risk to you, your passengers and your vehicle.

Many national and state parks offer trails just for this type of activity and they can be a great place to start your off-road adventure. Seek out trails that offer good traction materials and don’t have steep climbs or descents. Once you feel comfortable with these trails, you can move on to more demanding trails that feature rocks, dunes, mud and crossing rivers.

Before you set off, make sure you tell someone where you are going and what time you expect to return. It’s also a good idea to read and be familiar with your Jeep’s owner’s manual. It will offer details on driving techniques for your specific model. Off-road and Jeep clubs are also a great source of information – search for a club in your area to find drivers who share your love of the road less traveled. Many clubs offer day trips as a group, which is a great way to explore an area in a safe manner and with drivers who have the expertise to help you should you have trouble.

We hope it goes without saying that all off-roading is done at your own risk. Please practice safe driving and know your route before you head out. You’ll want to be sure to leave the area better than you found it, too. No littering or graffiti. Stay safe out there, drivers!

2015 Chrysler 200S

2015 Chrysler 200S

The 2015 Chrysler 200S is one of the more impressive models to hit the showroom at Chapman Chrysler Jeep.

This writer cannot agree more with the slogan from Chrysler that states, “This is not a sedan that wishes it was a sports car. The All-New 2015 Chrysler 200S is a performance sedan that also happens to be sophisticated and stylish.”

With its slick and sporty exterior design, the 2015 Chrysler 200S comes in eight colors ranging from “bright white clear coat” to “black clear coat.” Each color comes with a tri-coat paint that delivers a deeper shine.

The exterior has plenty of convenient features including keyless entry, 18” satin carbon aluminum wheels, noise-reducing acoustic glass, heated power mirrors and bi-functional lighting for performance and appearance.

The interior of the 2015 Chrysler 200S is a sophisticated eye-opener.

Entering the vehicle, the driver will notice the amount of space offered inside. Best-in-class front and rear shoulder room, a rotary e-shift, and an ergonomic center console with pass-through storage are just a few of the features in the spacious interior. Also the dual-pane sunroof is a nice touch. The moderate placement of chrome combined with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and seating gives drivers a sense of class and sport not felt in most mid-sized sedans.

Looking for comfort? The Chrysler 200S includes Smart Remote Start, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic temperature control with humidity sensor, heating and air conditioning ducts in the rear center console, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Looking at the safety security and performance features is what gives the Chrysler 200S its uniqueness. Blind spot monitoring and rear cross path detection mirrors, a Parkview rear backup camera and eight airbags are a few of the safety features. The security system is top-notch and will detect movement in the cabin or if the vehicle is tilted, sounding a deafening alarm.

Under the hood, the Chrysler 200S features a 2.4L Tigershark MultiAir II four-cylinder engine. Paired with the nine-speed automatic transmission, it delivers 184 horsepower, 173 lb-ft of torque and up to 36 highway mpg. Also available is the 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine. The V6 engine delivers Best-in-Class available 295 horsepower in addition to 262 lb-ft of torque and up to 32 highway mpg.

The sport mode with the Chrysler 200S cannot go unnoticed. With its performance-tuned modifications to the steering, throttle, transmission shift points, electronic stability control and adaptive cruise control, this feature is said by Chrysler to be “the most advanced Sport Mode in its class.”

Lastly for the technology aficionados out there, the Chrysler 200S features the Uconnect 5.0 System. This system includes a high-resolution, 8.4-inch touchscreen display, AM/FM radio, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio with one year of service included, integrated voice command with Bluetooth hands-free calling, voice prompts, voice commands for radio functions and voice texting, Bluetooth streaming audio, auxiliary and USB media hub with compatible mobile device integration, and speed adjusted volume with an available 10-speaker premium sound system.

Chapman Chrysler Jeep also has a wide selection of the 2015 Chrysler 200 for those who are looking for something a little less sporty.
